Chloe's Cup

As a homeschooling mother of two whose husband works at home, I don't go out for a cup of coffee very often. Usually I prefer to grind my own beans and make a cup or two using my drip coffee maker here at home. It saves money; it saves gasoline. If I can drink my coffee outside it even seems a little special, like a mini-vacation from all the have-to's I experience in running my home.

I used to buy my coffee beans from the grocery store, and I'd try to find the largest package of beans for the lowest price per ounce. The coffee would get stale before I could drink all of it, which was inevitable considering I'm the only person at my house who actually drinks coffee. I've had my share of stale coffee. The staleness might not be quite so noticeable if I didn't drink it black, but a year or so ago I found that cream or milk in my coffee no longer seemed quite right. I had given up sugar in my coffee long before. I guess the slow migration to zero additives was inevitable after that.

And then one day my husband said he thought that if I was going to continue buying coffee I ought to start buying good coffee. And that's when I started buying my coffee beans from Chloe's Cup.

Consider with me the benefits of buying coffee beans from your local coffee shop.
  1. There's a quick turn over of stock. The beans probably haven't been left sitting there for weeks and months on end, and believe me, there is a difference between fresh roasted coffee and the stuff that has been sitting around awhile. Some people notice that difference.
  2. You can buy your beans in smaller quantities, and if you aren't prepared to grind them as you use them, the barista there will grind your beans for you at no extra charge. I don't take them up on this service because coffee starts to lose flavor as soon as the beans are ground, but if you aren't quite as picky as I am, you probably won't find it to be a problem.
  3. Since I'm the sole coffee drinker in my household I don't go through my coffee beans very quickly, so I tend to buy my beans in very small quantities. My request for a quarter pound may throw them for a loop occasionally, but they've never balked at measuring out a half or quarter pound at a time. And the bags you take your coffee home in are awfully cute.
Chloe's Cup is the one independently owned coffee shop I know that happens to be on my side of town. I like it there. I like the owners; I like the staff. I wish I could go there more often. They have plenty of snacks and treats I haven't yet tried, but the biscuits I have picked up on occasion are delicious.

If you're in the downtown area you can try Chloe's Cup any time from 7AM to 10PM. They have a good assortment of food and an array of beverages. Check Chloe's Cup on Facebook for details. (click here)
