Anders Hardware

I'm used to shopping at the big box stores: Walmart, Sam's Club, Lowe's, Home Depot, Target, etc. I'm attracted to the slogan, "Shop Local," and I'm even more attracted to the idea behind the slogan, but Lowe's and Home Depot are where you go, right?

But today I went to Anders Hardware in downtown Northport instead.

I called first to see if they carried the product I was looking for. Turns out, the man who greeted me as I entered the store was the same man with whom I had already spoken on the phone. He took me straight to the item I named, and then he found several other things for me that I was looking for, including pipe-cleaners, which he had to leave the shop to find.

Later, I went go back to pick up the knife they are sharpening for me, and bought the 10 1/4 inch iron skillet I had my eye on. While I looked at the cast iron cooking implements I had a conversation about cooking with the customer standing next to me. I don't know if you like that kind of atmosphere while shopping, but I certainly do.

After completing my purchase, I took a little walk around the block to enjoy the lovely Spring air. I could get used to this. I'll occasionally do a little extra walking around Walmart, but it's never as enjoyable as it is at Anders.

Anders Hardware has 2 locations that I know of. You can find them on their website.
